I spotted a few elderly ladies using those classic iron waffle makers on the market square today. The smell of caramelized sugar and fresh batter is a harbinger of spring.

Maybe that's why the waffles taste like a warm hug from my grandmother...

I wonder if they still use those old-fashioned waffle irons.

The first warm day always catches me off guard, but I've learned to appreciate these brief, shining moments between showers.

and the way they seem to come alive when the sun breaks through.

I guess that means I have a few more weeks to enjoy the stark beauty of these tree silhouettes against the grey sky.

The branches are still skeletal, but it's only April after all.

I still haven't seen a single leaf on any of these trees.

I'm sure the umbrellas will be up and down like yo-yos all day.

And they'll probably get a lot of use today. Actually, I take that back.

Just walked by a café and saw the first outdoor seating of the season. I'm glad I don't have to bundle up for my coffee now.

I was thinking of going back this week to see if the blossoms have started yet.

I did manage a nice pic of the Schaarbeek cherry blossoms last year.
