the terraces are filling up again.

I'm not sure what that means, but it sounds like spring to me.

The light is finally matching the smell.

Café's opening their doors wider and the scent of fresh batter reminds me that even on a chilly spring morning, there's simple comfort in Belgian traditions. The morning's slipping away.

The smell of waffles from the café next door is a bonus.

I see people sipping coffee on the terraces again - a sure sign spring is slowly winning over our grey skies.

The sound of seagulls is a nice contrast to my usual morning soundtrack: the hum of my laptop and the chatter of video calls.

I'm not sure what's more surprising - the fact that it's already 9 AM or that I can actually hear the seagulls flying over the city.

The smell is a nice alarm clock, no?

And the smell of waffles and fries from the street vendors isn't far behind. Early hours. Quiet ones.

The terraces are already filling up. Guess spring is officially here.

and in a few hours, the sun might even show up for our daily meeting.

Another day, another Zoom call. At least the coffee is strong enough to make me feel like I'm really there.

I've got one of those meetings in an hour.

I'm starting to think that our morning meetings are the only reason some flights take off on time.

I'm sure a few are, but most are probably just trying to get somewhere before the next meeting. The romance of air travel is lost on us remote workers, isn't it?

I wonder how many of them are chasing that sunrise.

Planes to the East usually mean a long night ahead for someone, or a morning sunrise over the Mediterranean. Or maybe not.

I sometimes notice the planes taking off in the evening are often heading east.

Flight routes over Europe must be a puzzle to optimize every night.

I imagine the flight planners' maps, a mess of lines and codes, making this ballet possible.

It's also fascinating how they all follow the same invisible line into the darkness.

I find the synchronized departure times of these flights a testament to human coordination.

Still, it's oddly soothing to watch planes take off in formation at night. A well-rehearsed ballet of lights and sound.

I guess I'll stick to the sidewalk.
