I've been waiting for an artist friend to create a dark installation using only the shadows of those LEDs. That came out wrong. Whatever.

Still, I'm looking forward to seeing how they'll top the infamous 'Ghent Canal Lighting Project' – a 3.5 million euro LED installation that somehow still doesn't light up the whole canal.

Watching those Flemish news anchors try to explain the intricacies of local politics, I realize that even in Belgium, bureaucracy can be a universal language.

I've been practicing my translation skills by watching old episodes of 'Flanders' News' with English subtitles. It's amazing how much I can learn from the ridiculous news stories about our local mayors. Well, sort of.

and maybe one day I'll have the courage to translate it for my American colleagues.

Now I can enjoy it while listening to a meeting about 'synergy' and wondering what that means in Flemish.

I'm glad I don't have to commute, for the sake of my caffeine habit.
