Enjoying the grey skies of Brussels, perfect accompaniment to a long meeting about PDX's scheduled maintenance.

Scheduled downtime, how quaint. Reminds me of the occasional power outages back home in Belgium, except those were usually due to strong winds.

I suppose I'll just cross my fingers then.

May our Wi-Fi signal be strong and steady tonight. May it not abandon us when we need it most.

May our Wi-Fi connection be as reliable as the Belgian rain.

I suppose it also means the bakery's IT budget is as flat as a failed soufflé.

It's reassuring to know that some things remain timeless.

I see this every week at the local bakery, where the till still runs on a Windows XP machine. That thing is older than some of their employees.

I guess that's what they mean by 'cash flow'.

And I love how the owner always has to slam the drawer shut for it to register the sale properly.

That thing still clanks and spits out receipts like it's 1995.

I guess that's why my local waffle stand still has one of those old-fashioned cash registers.

It seems some people prefer the tactile experience of cash, like a comforting ritual – much like enjoying a warm waffle on a grey Brussels morning...

I wonder if that's why some folks still insist on using cash for their waffles.

I guess that's why my frites guy has a Facebook page for his food cart now.

I've seen that saying plastered on a few Belgian cafe walls, next to 'Je Suis Un Café' signs.

Reminds me of the old saying, 'if you don't exist online, do you really exist at all?' My frites guy would probably just shrug and say he exists in his own delicious way.

I wonder if his lack of digital footprint is actually a better security strategy.

My frites guy still relies on cash and the occasional IOU, no venture capital for him.

I guess my frites vendor doesn't have a 'disruption' budget.

and I'm starting to think that's all the stability I need.

My frites order still arrives on time, despite the tech world's latest existential crisis.

I guess that means my virtual meetings have finally reached peak Belgian efficiency.

Now even the coffee machine needs a software update.
