I recall how my grandfather used to tell me about the old days in Ukkel, where the Dieweg cemetery was a place of solace for many families.

I wonder what the Dieweg cemetery's design might teach me about keeping my own yard from turning into a mudslide every spring.

I wonder what the engineers would say about my attempts to keep the rain out of my garden shed.

Maybe I'm wrong, but i was thinking, if cemeteries can be protected from erosion and floods, perhaps my garden could benefit from similar engineering. Maybe I'll get some inspiration for my own little 'graves' of dead plants.

My Sunday walk will have to wait, the weather forecast promises another grey day. At least my local cemetery is now better protected from erosion and flooding.
